Building Joy: A Playground Project for Zanzibar’s Children
In 2022, ourFoundation and the popular children’s clothing brand name it joined forces to make a meaningful difference for the children of the Zanzibar SOS Children’s Villages.
In this article, we’re exploring the project from start to finish; from the drive that motivated the initiative to the result that still stands to this day.
A partnership with purpose
SOS Children’s Villages work tirelessly to support some of the world’s most vulnerable children – those who have lost parental care and need a safe, nurturing environment to grow up within. Recognizing the profound influence that play and social interaction have on a child’s development, ourFoundation collaborated with name it, a children’s clothing company deeply rooted in creating positive experiences for children, setting a vision in motion for the village in Tanzania: to build a space where the children could simply be children.
The collaboration was unique and strategic, as name it actively engaged their customer base in the mission; a specially designed tote bag was sold for 30 DKK, allowing customers to directly contribute to the playground project.
The ‘Help us Build a Playground’ campaign quickly gained momentum, raising a substantial 200.000 DKK for the purpose. This community-driven effort underscored the campaign’s success and the genuine desire of many to contribute to a brighter, more lighthearted everyday life for the children in the village.
Creating a safe haven
Play is a critical component of childhood, essential for emotional, cognitive, and social development. The newly constructed playground and sports court serve as more than just a facility; they are sanctuaries of joy, learning, and friendship.
The success of this project is a shining example of how collaborative efforts can bring lasting results. ourFoundation and name it, along with countless individuals who purchased the tote bags and spread the word, have not only enhanced the quality of the children’s daily lives but also strengthened the bonds within the local community.
